What’s a Carillon??
A carillon is a set of stationary bells hung in a tower and sounded by manual or pedal action, or by machinery. (Dictionary website)
You probably heard our carillon play on Sundays at noon or other times throughout the week as you are outside or driving in the area. Our carillon is actually a computer type “box” that is in the room directly opposite the choir room where the organ pipes are (directly behind the chancel area).
Long time members, J. Howard Kelly and his wife, Delores, were instrumental in the original purchase of the carillon and the initial chips.
We currently have over 150 songs that can be played. The Music Committee would like to invite you to have your favorite hymn played or have a song played in memory or honor of a loved one. There is a form to complete in which you select the song along with the day and time it is played. In order to maintain the carillon, we are asking that a small donation be made the Carillon Maintenance Fund when you request a song.
Join us on Sunday, December 7 in Kelsey Hall for the Carillon Kick-Off!
The Music Committee will be available to answer questions and accept requests. We will also have forms in the narthex and on the website so you can request a song throughout the year.
Christmas is right around the corner…if you would like to be part of the augmented chancel choir or offer a music offering,
please contact Marianne Wright or Rev. Claire Bamberg.
Don’t miss worship service on December 14 when we will have seven flutists
(Kathie Marsan and friends) offering music throughout the service.
Check out the music bulletin board by the Music Room for information about the different upcoming music events and information!
